James R. Cascio, Esq.

Jim Cascio is the grandson of Sicilian immigrants who settled in Somerset County, and the son of one of the firm founders, Joseph Cascio. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Franklin & Marshall, and earned his law degree at the University of Pittsburgh. After taking the bar exam in 1975, Jim began his law career by working part-time as an assistant district attorney, and part-time for Fike, Cascio & Boose. As a partner in the firm, his broad practice includes civil litigation, as well as municipal, real estate, and estate law. He values his relationships with other members of the region’s legal community, and has proudly served on the boards of directors for Conemaugh Health System and 1889 Foundation.

Jeffrey L. Berkey, Esq.

Partner

Jeff Berkey is a native of Somerset County having been born and raised in the Windber area and has raised his family here. He graduated from Elizabethtown College and George Washington University law school. After taking the bar exam in 1981, Jeff clerked in the Court of Common Pleas of the Sixteenth Judicial District for the late Norman Shaulis and began his career in the Trust Department of U.S. Bank. As a partner in the firm, his broad practice includes business and commercial transactions, real estate, personal injury and municipal law, estate planning and estate administration. Jeff is involved in numerous community and church activities and is a member of the Somerset County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. Jeff, and his wife Sherry, have three adult children and seven grandchildren – they recently celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary. Outside the office Jeff enjoys basketball, golf and boating.

Lois Witt Caton, Esq.

Born and raised in Somerset, Lois Witt Caton earned her B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College in 1989 and her J.D. from Dickinson School of Law in 1992, where she was a member of Dickinson Law Review. After law school she was a law clerk for the Somerset County Court of Common Pleas. She has been with Fike, Cascio & Boose since 1993, where she practices in a wide range of areas with special expertise in real estate, including residential, commercial and resort transactions; natural resource, business, and municipal law; and estate planning and administration. She is a member of the Somerset County Bar Association. In her free time, Lois enjoys cooking, hosting friends and spending time with her blended family, which includes six children and two grandchildren.

Allyson N. Lonas, Esq.

Allyson was born and raised in a small family business in Cambria County, and she brings a fresh perspective to the law with her entrepreneurial approach. Allyson graduated from the Pennsylvania State University and earned her law degree at Penn State Dickinson Law.  During her time in law school, Allyson worked for the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General where she defended the Pennsylvania State Government and government officials in significant cases of state-wide importance. Allyson also worked for the Pennsylvania Senate, which involved extensive research across all areas of laws. Following law school, Allyson worked for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives where she advised legislative leaders and committee chairs on political and policy matters. Allyson joined the firm after clerking for the Commonwealth Court, where she heard administrative and civil public law cases. Allyson is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the James S. Bowman American Inns of Court. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, sports, and spending time with her family.

Eugene E. Fike II, Esq.

Of Counsel

Gene Fike received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University in 1961, after which he attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia. During his law school years, he worked during the summers as a paralegal with his uncle, Paul E. C. Fike, and his partner, Joseph Cascio, in their Somerset law firm, Fike and Cascio.

In 1967, Attorney Fike began the practice of the law with Fike and Cascio, which after his uncle’s death, with the addition of Attorney Robert Boose, was known as Fike, Cascio and Boose. Attorney Fike practiced law with Fike, Cascio and Boose until 1985, when he was elected as a judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Somerset County, and by retention election in 1995, was elected for an additional ten-year term.

After stepping down from elective office in 2005, Judge Fike continued in his judicial capacity as a Senior Judge, serving for the following twelve years in Counties across the Commonwealth as needed.

After retirement from judicial duties in 2017, Attorney Fike returned to his former law firm, Fike, Cascio and Boose, to serve “Of Counsel.”
